Large HDPE shade net canopy over a school sports field with students playing

Education · Playgrounds

Playgrounds,
shaded to stay up.

HDPE shade net and tensile membrane canopies for schoolyards, courts and playgrounds — posts kept out of the play zone, and a frame detailed for the wind on an open field.

  • Posts outside the play area
  • Shade net or solid membrane
  • Packed to install inside a holiday window

01 What the canopy has to solve

On a schoolyard,
the post is the hazard.

The structure gets climbed, hung from and run into. Every fixing within reach is a design decision, and every post is a place a child can collide with at speed. That is before the wind case on the most exposed site in the district.

01

Posts outside the play zone

Columns go outside the marked play area, with no climbable bracing at child height and no sharp fixings within reach. Where a post has to sit inside the yard, it is protected and detailed on the drawing.

02

Shade factor versus air movement

HDPE shade net cuts heat and UV while letting air through; a solid membrane gives rain cover but traps heat underneath. Most playgrounds want the first, and covered walkways want the second.

03

Wind on an open field

A playing field is the least sheltered site there is. The frame is designed as an open structure with the net in its design condition, not as a building with a roof bolted on.

04

The school calendar

Frames are packed in erection sequence so the crane and crew are on site for the shortest possible window — usually one holiday. Deliveries are planned backwards from the first day of term.

02 Configuration

Shade net, membrane,
or both.

Shade net over a court or playground, a tensile membrane over a walkway or entrance, or a combination on one frame: net over the play area, membrane over the circulation underneath.

  • HDPE shade net, tensile membrane, or polycarbonate over walkways
  • Colours to match the school's palette; samples issued before order
  • Climbing net, seating and lighting can be integrated

04 How it works

From your drawing
to the container.

Every project follows the same four steps. Nothing is cut until the drawing is approved and the deposit is received.

  • 01

    Send the yard plan

Yard dimensions, play zones, existing trees and buildings, term dates and photos of the surface.

  • 02

    Drawing and calculation

Post positions outside the play zone, shade coverage, drainage and the wind calculation for the site.

  • 03

    Fixed quotation

Frame, net or membrane and packing priced against the drawing, with the holiday installation window.

  • 04

    Production and packing

Labelled in erection sequence, delivered to fit the holiday window, with a fixing plan for your crew.

05 Questions

What is the difference between shade net and a membrane roof?

Shade net blocks a stated percentage of UV and heat while letting air and some rain through. A tensile membrane is a solid roof: it sheds rain and needs proper gutters. Playgrounds usually want net; entrances and walkways usually want membrane.

Can it be installed during the school holidays?

That is the normal arrangement. We pack in erection sequence and plan deliveries backwards from the first day of term, so the crane and crew are on site for the shortest window.

How is the frame fixed on a grass field?

With ground screws or concrete pads, depending on the soil and the wind case. The drawing states which, the depth, and what your contractor has to prepare before delivery.

Why can't the posts stand inside the play area?

Because children run into them, climb them and hang from the bracing. Where a post must sit inside the yard, it is detailed with protection and no reachable fixings — but moving it outside the line is usually cheaper and safer.
